/ world today news/ The residents of Garmen demanded the resignations of the ministers Rumiana Bachvarova and Liliana Pavlova and the chief prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov.
They stated that they will no longer pay taxes and garbage fees to the municipality. Protesters chant “Resign!” and “Murderers!” Some of the protesters are wearing t-shirts with the words “I am proud, young Bulgarian and Mileia for Garmen”, they wear a tricolor shirt with the inscription “Revolution”.
About 200 people are protesting in front of the former party house in Sofia, demanding that the demolition of the illegal buildings in the Rhodope village of Garmen continue. The decision for the protest in Sofia was made by an initiative committee after the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works announced that the demolition of two of the Roma buildings in Garmen, scheduled for July 13, will not take place. The reason is a letter from the secretary of a department at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg to lawyer Daniela Mihailova on a complaint filed by her and the need for additional information to be provided by the Bulgarian government.
The court has asked Bulgaria to stop the demolition until it provides housing for the vulnerable applicants. Yesterday, the Directorate for National Construction Control issued a statement stating that the institution will comply with all orders entered into force to remove illegal constructions in the village of Garmen in strict compliance with human rights and the principle of proportionality.
So far, eight illegal constructions in the village have been removed, as the orders that have come into force must be implemented. DNSK has sent a letter to the mayor of the municipality informing them that another 102 buildings will be removed, for 20 of which a contractor has already been selected and the forced removal will be scheduled.
In order to guarantee the preservation of the rights of vulnerable persons who are residents or persons with permanent address registration in the municipality of Garmen, the mayor is required to immediately submit to DNSK a schedule with deadlines for temporary accommodation of the affected families.
The Minister of Regional Development Liliana Pavlova has ordered the General Directorate of GRAO to start checking the address registrations in the “Kremikovtsi” district of Garmen. If violations of the law are found, the registrations will be deleted and the other competent authorities will also be referred, said Minister Pavlova in an interview with BTV According to her, the fault for the 775 new registrations allowed in the neighborhood lies not only with the previous mayor Ahmed Bashev from DPS, but also with the current mayor Minka Kapitanova, who was deputy mayor at the time.
Residents of Garmen will protest in front of the Council of Ministers building against the decision to stop the demolition of non-illegal houses in the Roma neighborhood of the village “Kremikovtsi”. The protest starts at 11 a.m., the “Focus” Agency reported earlier. According to the plan, the demolition of the buildings was supposed to continue on July 13, but it was postponed because of a letter from the European Court of Human Rights, from where they requested additional information about the actions of the Bulgarian authorities in the case and stated that shelter should be found for the Roma. The mayor of Garmen, Minka Kapitanova, stated that the letter was of a recommendatory nature and said that options were being sought for housing the people whose homes would be destroyed.
Yesterday, DNSK announced that it had requested a schedule with the deadlines for their accommodation, so that they could plan the demolition of another 102 buildings.
