Residents of collapsed Bilthoven flat will certainly not go home for weeks

Residents of the flat in Bilthoven that partially collapsed last week due to gas explosions will not be able to go home in the coming weeks. The building is currently uninhabitable because there is no gas, water and electricity.

It is according to the housing association it remains to be seen whether part of the building will ever be safe enough for habitation. It is also possible that the entire building will have to be demolished. Further research should reveal this.

In the coming weeks, the residents of the 28 homes will be accommodated in hotels and a holiday park or with family and friends.

Sewerage work

The flat was hit by two explosions last Thursday. The first explosion occurred after a gas pipeline was hit during work on the sewerage system. All homes were evacuated. Shortly after, there was a bigger explosion as emergency workers entered the building.

Five firefighters and two officers were injured and a large part of the facade collapsed.
