Members of the Military District Command (Kodim) 0409/Rejang Lebong, Bengkulu handed over a mortar believed to have been used since World War II. The mortar was found by residents and then members of Kodim 0409 Rejang Lebong immediately handed it to the police for destruction.
“We have handed it over to the police to detonate it. The residents found it and took it to Koramil 409-05 Curup,” said Acting Chief of Staff Kodim (Kasdim) 0409/Rejang Lebong who is also na Danramil 409-05 Curup, Captain Inf Toni Antoni, as reported by Antara , Monday (22/4/2024).
Toni revealed that the 81 Tampela mortar weapons found by residents were located in Karang Jaya Village, Selupu Rejang District, on Friday (19/4) at around 11.30 WIB. The murderers were also investigated by Denpal II/I Curup officers.
From the results of the investigation, it was found that the mortar no longer had a pivot at the top and tail, but could explode if hit with a hard object or set on fire.
“Our message is, if you find items in the form of weapons or old explosives, do not disturb them, just leave them where they are and contact the members of the TNI/Polri in case they remain active,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Rejang Lebong Police Public Relations Head, AKP Sinar Simanjuntak, explained that the 81 Tampela mortar weapons were secured at the Selupu Rejang Police Headquarters by placing them in the ground before they were destroyed by the Bengkulu Police Jihandak team.
“The object was found by two residents of Simpang Nangka Village, Selupu Rejang District, who were growing taro tubers in the irrigation canal in Karang Jaya Village, Selupu Rejang District,” he said.
While looking for taro tubers, he said, the two residents found what looked like a taro tuber, and when it was taken out, it felt heavy and hard. what they found dangerous, the two handed over 81 Tampela mortar weapons to the Curup Koramil picket 409-05. These findings were then handed over by members of the Kurup Koramil to the Selupu Rejang Police.
