FAJAR.CO.ID, BATAM – The situation in the Rempang Island area, Riau Islands (Kepri) on Thursday night (7/9) was still tense after clashes between residents and joint officers.
It is said that residents have blocked access to the Rempang Island area which will be the location of the national strategic project (PSN).
Barelang Police Chief, Kombes Nugroho Tri Nuryanto even continues to urge the public not to block the way of security personnel who will enter the Rempang area, Batam.
Kombes Nugroho asked the people of Rempang Island who had blocked the entrance to the area to withdraw in an orderly manner because the residents’ actions were considered against the rule of law.
Kombes Nugroho also threatened to take firm action against residents who were anarchistic in the action.
“We ask you not to act anarchistically. We will not hesitate to take firm action if you are still fighting back,” Kombes Nugroho said through a loudspeaker.
BP Batam Promotion and Protocol Public Relations Bureau Head Ariastuti Sirait explained that the development of the Rempang Area involved the local community.
Therefore, he invites the public not to be affected by negative information that has been circulating from those who are not responsible.
“BP Batam has conveyed that the rights of the people affected by the development have been considered. Hopefully the community can understand it,” he said.
As of Thursday evening, the combined officers with full attributes were still guarding the area while continuing to fire tear gas to disperse the residents who were blocking the road.
