Party at the Meerzicht campsite in Matsloot on the border between Groningen and Drenthe. Because the residents have signed the contract to buy back the holiday park.
They can then continue to enjoy the tranquility of the park. Many vacation rental owners live in a small apartment in the city, but here they can enjoy the great outdoors.
Tearing down your house yourself?
Six months ago things looked very different for them. They had received a letter from the new owner, Europarcs. He wanted to renovate the park, that is, build new, more luxurious houses and rent them out.
So the current residents had to leave and they also had to demolish their homes, says Daniella van Gennep, a board member of the Leekstermeer Park Interests Association.
But some of the current homeowners in Meerzicht have been coming here for 40 or 50 years. And they didn’t want to leave.
Fantastic Christmas
Now there is a trade-off. Residents will buy back the park and Europarcs will develop the vacant lots, commissioned by the new owner: the Leekstermeer Park Interests Association.
Tanja Tamina, owner of one of the houses in the park, is one of the residents of the park and is happy: “We are not only buying our park, but also our community and its conservation. This is important, we have a great Christmas!”
