A residential construction and renovation company in Saint-Lambert-de-Lauzon, its president and several representatives, will have to pay thousands of dollars in fines after committing violations of the Consumer Protection Act between 2018 and 2020 in Beauce and in the Gaspé.
The Consumer Protection Office announced on Wednesday that Les Entreprises RH, its president, Raynald Huet, and one of its representatives, William Baril-Filiatrault, have pleaded guilty to charges brought under this law in 2021 and in 2022. Fines totaling more than $37,000 have been imposed on them.
The Office accused them of having used a pretext to solicit the sale of heat pumps and decontamination and insulation work. He also criticized them for not having used a contract that complied with the provisions on itinerant trade and for not having attached the resolution form. The company also acknowledged having received a payment before fulfilling its obligations and before the expiry of the resolution period. The president admitted having failed to return within the prescribed period the sums paid by a consumer, after the latter had terminated the contract.
Two other representatives, Sacha Villeneuve and Richard Beaulieu, were found guilty of not having used a compliant contract in April 2021, at the Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce courthouse. The two men will each have to pay a fine of more than $1,100. Another representative, Raymond Lévesque, was convicted of the same offense in 2022, in connection with transactions in Gaspésie. He was fined nearly $6,600.
The offenses were committed between November 2018 and March 2020 in Saint-Georges, Sainte-Marie, Frampton, Paspébiac, Maria and Saint-André-de-Restigouche.
