Residential care centers will open their doors to new residents from 8 June

Belga / J. Arthur

From 8 June, Flemish residential care centers can again accept new residents. This is reported by the Agency for Care and Health. New recordings were no longer possible due to the corona measures since March 12, with a few exceptions.

The measure means the end of the lockdown of the Flemish residential care centers, after earlier visits were again possible. “Every new admission of a resident is done after advice from the general practitioner, the coordinating and advisory physician and the management of the residential care centers,” says the agency. New residents can be tested for infection with the coronavirus.

Cohort care

Residential care centers may refuse admission of elderly people infected with COVID-19 if there is an alternative. In addition, residential care centers can leave a limited number of residential facilities empty for the time being. In the event of a new outbreak, these free rooms can then be used to quickly switch to cohort care, whereby sick residents are grouped and separated.

From June 8, group activities can also take place in the local service centers. The condition is that reservations are made in advance, with a limited number of participants and with the necessary hygiene measures.
