A resident of the Russian city of Magadan will be tried for illegal possession of a shipment of gold, which, according to investigators, he found more than a dozen years ago. It is reported by the local newspaper Kolyma.ru with reference to the prosecutor’s office of the region.
According to investigators, in the summer of 2008, in the Magadan village of Khasyn, the accused found a bag with non-standard gold bars, a scattering of shavings and massive chains made of precious metal with a total weight of 22 kg and worth more than 91 million rubles (over $ 1 million – ed.).
For more than 13 years, the attacker kept the stolen goods in a cache, and in December 2021, while trying to sell the jewelry, he was detained by law enforcement officers.
“He is accused of committing a crime under part 4 of article 191 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal storage and transportation of precious metals on a large scale),” the report says.
The case will be considered by the Magadan City Court.
