It was a “crime” that a taxi driver in his car listened to a song by Viktor Tsoi and allegedly shouted “Long live Belarus!”

In Minsk, the police detained a local resident for listening to Viktor Tsoi’s song Changes in his car two months earlier. The man was detained during a memorial service, according to the website of the human rights center Spring.

The incident took place on June 26th. The 58-year-old taxi driver and his family gathered at home for 40 days after the death of the head of the family’s mother.

When he was sitting at the memorial table, his son called the man and said that the police were asking him to leave, as his car had been scratched and a protocol had to be drawn up.

The taxi driver was detained and placed in a pre-trial detention center.

“Upon arrival at the ROVD, a protocol was already laid on me. I was only told that a complaint came from a“ worried citizen ”that on May 1 I was driving a car with a song by Viktor Tsoi Changes and shouted“ Long live Belarus! ”, The Minsk resident said.

The next day, a trial was held, at which the man was charged with an article on violation of the order of organizing and holding mass events and was sent to a pre-trial detention center for 15 days.
