Video game adaptation
Berlin (dpa) – Almost 20 years ago a groundbreaking work came into the cinemas: “Resident Evil”, which was partly shot in Germany and co-produced by Bernd Eichinger. In it the women were the heroines – especially Milla Jovovich in the lead role.
Since then, her name has been closely associated with the video game fantasy film series.
The US actress, who was born in Kiev and is also known as a model, not only slipped into the role of the brave heroine who fought against the evil Umbrella Corporation with a lot of verve in her debut from 2002. She was also present in all previous further stories.
«People get sick. We have to stop Umbrella! ”Reads the trailer for“ Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City ”, the seventh part of the video game adaptation. The film takes us back to 1998 and back to the beginnings of the story: It’s about the origin story of “Resident Evil”, the genesis, the “origin of evil” (according to the announcements about the film) and a small, dying US city in the Midwest. It’s about Raccoon City.
Not only that the new “Resident” takes us into the 1990s, in a version of the rather creepy cinema trailer the 4 Non Blondes are also with their big 90s hit “What’s Up?” to listen.
Smaller, but for some fans a bigger downer: After her appearance in “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” from 2016, Jovovich is not part of the dark and dystopian goings-on this time. Instead we see actors like Kaya Scodelario (“The Maze Runner”), Hannah John-Kamen (“Ant-Man and the Wasp”) and Tom Hopper (“Northmen – A Viking Saga”). Johannes Roberts wrote and directed the film.
