Ordinary episodes reach millions of sales, are appreciated by reviewers and players, and there is no indication that this will change in the foreseeable future and that the most famous horror saga has run out. However, not everything with her is as the Japanese gaming giant would like.
He has been trying for years to create a successful multiplayer action from the famous zombie world, which he fails to do. Just remember the bird Umbrella Corps or monstrosity Resident Evil: Resistance. However, Capcom is still not giving up and is preparing another competitive online event for us called Resident Evil Re: Verse. Before you start tearing your hair, know that this is a title that will come free with Resident Evil Village.
Po experience with the Maiden demo we believe that the eighth part of Resi will be terno again. Resident Evil Re: Verse thus becomes a pleasant bonus for someone at best. For others, it will be an accessory that may never start to enjoy a trip to the village below the medieval castle of Dimitrescu in modern-day Transylvania.
We didn’t play much on the first day of the beta
The open Beta Resident Evil Re: Verse ran from Thursday the 8th to Sunday the 11th of April. The only need to run it was to activate Capcom ID and link it to your account. It was possible to play on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC-Steam platforms. Versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S were not available. Owners of next-gen consoles have relied on backward compatibility. According to information from the official website, the versions for their machines are not going anyway.
We tested the PS4 version on the PS5 during the first three days of public beta. Thursday was a complete tragedy. We only managed to run the game three times. Otherwise, matchmaking was completely barren and he could not find our opponents. The beta was no longer running in the afternoon. Fortunately, on Friday and Saturday, most things went as they should.
There were only a few crashes or bugs. These are problems that are expected and understandable with beta. Importantly, we had the opportunity to try Resident Evil Re: Verse. Respectively, try out what the beta allowed us to do. We already know all the game mechanics and we know how to play gameplay.
Everyone has two special attacks
Resident Evil Re: Verse is a purely competitive online affair. 4 to 6 players can face each other. Deathmatch mode was available to try. All indications are that this will be the only game mode even in full play. At least at her start. The task is to kill all others without mercy.

There are six playable characters to choose from, which fans of the Resident Evil series know very well – see the table. Each of them has a basic weapon: a pistol with unlimited ammunition, which is complemented by a personal weapon, in which it is necessary to collect ammunition. Leon has a shotgun, Ada a crossbow and Chris an automatic rifle. To do this, the heroes have two recharging special attacks and one passive ability.

During the attack, Leon fires two pistols with iconic laser sights, Ada kicks you from a familiar turn in the air, and Hunk is temporarily invisible. We would say that fans will first choose their favorites from other Rsident Evil video games and adjust their preferences after a few cats. In addition to specific weapons, special and more devastating pieces such as a grenade launcher or rocket launcher can be taken in the arena.
You are treating with green plants
Of course, collecting green herbs for health cannot be missed. When it comes to action, Resident Evil Re: Verse is a classic third-party online game whose camera captures the character from behind the shoulder. The control is normal, you will quickly get used to it. During skirmishes, rolls are suitable, which you can throw in all parts of the world and thus escape shooting and other attacks. However, they consume energy, so it is necessary to jump to the sides with prudence.
If someone sniffs you out and spoils your so-called kill streak, their character is marked with a skull so that you can chase it after respawn. If you manage to eliminate the player in question, your kill streak continues. The fights are five minutes long, which we think is a reasonable length. The game doesn’t sound like anything, does it? She’s not who I am either. It is an average online event that will probably only attract the biggest fans of the Resident Evil series. But there aren’t many of them, are there?

Fortunately, Resident Evil Re: Verse boasts an element that makes the whole game special. You collect virus capsules while playing. Once the amen is with you, you will turn into a mutant. It depends on how many capsules you have collected. The more there were, the more menacing and bigger the monster will change. The basic mutation is Fat Molded aka fat mold, the strongest and scariest is the Super Tyrant, which is the final form of Mr. X. Even mutants have their own special attacks, so Hunter Gamma can devour an opponent or spit him with acid.

The nemesis can stab the ground with its tentacles and fire missiles. The changes in the marching biohazard are definitely the most interesting thing the game has to offer, and thanks to them, Resident Evil Re: Verse can entertain for a few moments.
We don’t expect the game to become an online fixture, but it could be a nice addition to Resident Evil Village. We believe that the choice of characters can already be final. As is probably the case with mutations.
In Beta, we only looked at the police station
However, we would not mourn unnecessarily about the lack of heroes during the DLC. There may be many more over time. The arenas are a big unknown. Only the famous Raccoon City Police Station was available in beta. Of course, this is a location we love, but it’s a shame we couldn’t try another. Judging by the factory, we think that the arenas will be smaller to medium-sized.
As for the technical condition, the beta should not be evaluated in terms of stability and matchmaking. Once the game started, it worked as it should in the vast number of cases. Resident Evil Re: Verse is surprisingly powered by an internal graphics RE Engine, with character models used from games Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil 2 remake a Resident Evil 3 remake.
That’s why Chris Redfield looks so unpopular with fans. As the latest remakes, however, the upcoming online bag is definitely not pretty. Its graphic form is best described by the word average. If you don’t like the cartoon touch of the game, you don’t have to despair. The comic filter can be switched off already in beta. We were pleased with a small thing in the form of lighting the remote control.
Let’s keep expectations low
Your DualShock 4 or DualSense shines in color depending on how well you are doing. Witnesses may remember Resident Evil: Code Veronica for Dreamcast, where a memory card with a VMU display was used to show you health. Resident Evil Re: Verse in no way reaches the qualities of the main parts of the main series. We already know that this is not possible. The most gratifying thing about the game is that, according to the beta, it is played a fous better than the last online monstrosity Resident Evil: Resistance.

Changing into mutants also has something to do with it. So let’s keep our expectations low, for example Resident Evil Re: Verse will eventually become nonsense, which we’ll have fun with for a few moments. To wish anything more from this title would be foolish.
We put our hopes in Resident Evil Village. As the cult horror series, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, has shown us all over the years, the story-oriented singleplayer, atmosphere of fear, decay and gameplay combining action, elements of the struggle for survival and solving puzzles suits us best.
Verdict: Resident Evil Re: Verse will not be world-class, but thanks to interesting mutations and especially the fact that it will be delivered free of charge to Resident Evil Village, it may be fun for a few moments.
