Capcom has officially announced its long-awaited remake of Resident Evil 4 and provided a release date: March 24, 2023.
This reimagined take on Capcom’s survival horror classic kicked off tonight’s State of Play presentation with a flashy trailer.
Unsurprisingly, we’ve seen plenty of glimpses of Resident Evil 4-style locations, though it’s also clear that this is a somewhat different remake, many of which look new. Here is that trailer:
in a companion blog playstation post, Capcom explained that this new version of Resi 4 will be “familiar to fans of the series, while still feeling fresh.”
“This is achieved by reimagining the game’s story while keeping the essence of its direction, modernizing the graphics, and upgrading the controls to a modern standard,” Capcom continued.
The scenes with hero Leon S. Kennedy meeting the US President, for example, were definitely not in the original Resi 4, although they do take place in the recent Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness CGI series.
There’s no suggestion that Resident Evil 4 will be exclusive to PlayStation, although there will be some kind of PlayStation VR2 functionality. [UPDATE: Indeed, Capcom has now confirmed the game’s launch platforms are PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.]
