Modder Elsuperaguas has released a mod for Resident Evil 4 Remake, which will give you the opportunity to play through the game from a first-person view. A video from the Residence of Evil YouTube channel gives a good idea of what it looks like in action. The modification moves the camera to first-person mode, but otherwise retains Leon’s body model and animation, resulting in a slower FPS with real immersion in the world – much like the gameplay from RE7 and Village. You can see how reduced situational awareness makes the game much more tense and challenging, but isn’t that part of the fun?
The Elsuperaguas project has a number of dependent mods – for example, you will have to hide Leon’s head, making it invisible, thereby freeing up space for the new first-person camera. It’s surprising how few modifications are needed to turn RE4 into a full-fledged FPS. But just a few years ago, Capcom itself went in the opposite direction, deciding to add a third-person camera to the originally created first-person Resident Evil Village.
