reset locked iPhone without computer, it is possible

With the final version of iOS 15.2, it is now possible to erase and reset a locked iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, without having to go through a computer. Apple didn’t mention the new feature in the update notes, but unveiled information on its site.

Reset Locked iPhone Without Computer Using iOS 15.2

When an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is unlocked, it is possible to reset it by going in Settings > General > Transfer or reset iPhone to erase all content and settings. So far, if the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is Locked, you must use a computer to reset it. But, with the version of iOS 15.2, Apple has just offered a new way of doing things. Indeed, the version in question now allows you to reset an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch locked without a computer.

So, if you forgot your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch password, you can use your Apple ID and password (your Apple ID password) to wipe and reset the device. But above all, these conditions must be met:

  • You must have a device that uses iOS 15.2 or iPadOS 15.2 or later.
  • Your device must be connected to a cellular or Wi-Fi network.
  • You will need your Apple ID and the password you used to set up your device.

Apple clarifies that if you restart your device when you see “Security Lock” on the lock screen, you will not be able to reconnect to a Wi-Fi network until your device is unlocked. Devices that are equipped with cellular functions will connect to a cellular network after restarting if you have an active plan.

Then come the steps to reset the device. Here they are :

  • From your device’s lock screen, enter any password until you see a message that says the device is locked for a few minutes. From this moment, you will see a button “Erase iPhone” (or iPad or iPod depending on your device) at the bottom right of the screen.
  • Tap “Erase iPhone” (or iPad or iPod depending on your device), then tap “Erase iPhone” again to confirm.
  • Enter your Apple ID password to sign out of your Apple ID on your device.
  • Tap “Erase iPhone” (or iPad or iPod depending on your device) to permanently delete all your data and settings.
  • When your device restarts, follow the onscreen instructions to set up your device again, restore your data, and settings from a backup and set a new password.

If the device cannot connect to Wi-Fi or does not have a cellular connection, the Apple ID authorization step will fail and the device cannot be reset. In this case, you will have to use a computer and go through the good old traditional method by putting the device in DFU mode to do the reset.
