Reserve mobilization ordered in Israel amid attacks

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galand ordered an urgent mass mobilization of reserves while the Israeli army is on alert in the southern regions of the country.

Residents of a border settlement report on social media that groups of armed Palestinian hooded men are roaming the streets of the settlement. Earlier in the morning, shortly after 8:30 local time, state television reported that hooded armed Palestinians had stormed a police station in the Israeli city of Sderot and that an exchange of fire was underway.

Sirens have been sounding since morning in cities of southern and central Israel. Official announcements so far speak of one Israeli dead and 16 injured.

Bodies representing reservists opposed to the judicial reform promoted by the Government have announced that they are suspending their protests and that they will respond to the conscription order.

The head of Hamas’ military wing, Mohammad Def, announced in a statement that the operation “Al-Aqsa Storm” had begun, which he linked to the “continuous violations of the status quo of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in recent days, when during during the Jewish holidays of the last fortnight, a number of Jewish believers visited the forecourt of the mosque.
