Researchers warn that earwax affects the sense of hearing | health

A scientific study conducted in Britain highlighted a problem that increasingly affects the sense of hearing, which is earwax blockage.

The study, conducted by a research team from the National Institute for Health and Care Research at the University of Manchester, found that more than two million people in Britain alone suffer from an accumulation of wax inside the ear, and need to be removed on a regular basis.

Earwax consists of fallen skin cells and secretions of wax glands that are located inside the outer ear.

The study included 500 adults who resorted to the National Health Care Service in Britain, because they complain of the problem of wax accumulation, as they feel clogged inside the ear and have difficulty hearing.

The study team confirmed that earwax affects the ability to communicate with others, makes it difficult to listen to television or hear the sounds of the surrounding environment, and can lead to a feeling of discomfort or ringing in the ear.

Wax removal

60% of the study participants stated that they find the earwax problem very annoying, and 80% said that they felt immediate improvement once the wax was removed from the ear.

And the “Medical Express” website, which specializes in medical research, quoted researcher Kevin Monroe, a specialist in ear diseases and hearing problems at the University of Manchester, as saying, “If someone wants to simulate the feeling of wax in the ear, he has to put his finger inside his ear for several days, and then he will know how dangerous this is.” the problem”.

He stressed that “the traditional method of removing wax by injecting water with a syringe into the ear is no longer recommended,” noting that “there are other, newer and safer methods for wax removal.”

He added, “There is a misconception that relying on wax-melting drops alone is enough to get rid of this problem, but in fact, the melted wax must still be suctioned from the ear, which cannot be done from home, and must be undertaken by specialized doctors.”
