Researchers Say New Variant of Covid-19 Spreads Faster

RADAR MALANG – Covid-19 is now increasingly mutating into new variants. There are two variants that are now confirmed to be highly contagious and rapidly spreading, namely the Alpha and Delta variants.

Two recent studies have shown that newer Covid-19 variants such as Alpha and Delta are highly contagious. The Seattle Times reports that with the new coronavirus strain, the virus has evolved to spread more effectively through the air.

It is well known that the Corona virus spreads indoors hence encouraging people to wear masks, practice social distancing and ventilation in public places. Most scientists now agree that Covid-19 is more commonly transmitted through aerosols which are able to float longer distances indoors and settle directly into the lungs.

Launching Jawapos, Saturday (9/10), the latest study does not change that view. However, the results point to the need for better masks under certain circumstances, and determine that the virus is changing in a way that makes it more difficult.

According to a virologist from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Vincent Munster, showing that small aerosols travel longer distances compared to larger droplets and the Alpha variant. Then the infection is easier through aerosol transmission.

A second study showed people infected with the alpha variant exhaled more than 40 times more virus into small aerosols compared to those infected with the first strain of Covid-19 or older.

Two recent studies compared the Alpha variant with the first or other strains. However, the findings also prove that the Delta variant replaces all other variants of Covid-19.

Airborne virus expert Linsey Marr of Virginia Tech said the Covid-19 strain was duplicating faster, or that more variants of the virus were exhaled into the aerosol. Furthermore, experts explain as the virus continues to change, newer strains may become more infectious. This is why wearing a mask is so important.
