Researchers Plan to Send Illustrations of the Human Body to Space, For What? page all

KOMPAS.com – Researcher outer space planning to send a message to alienincluding illustrations man naked.

The plan presented in the proposal entitled ‘A Beacon in the Galaxy‘ (BITG) was presented by 11 researchers from various institutions, including the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

As quoted from CNN, Sunday (8/5/2022) the message in the form of a binary code was specifically developed for outer space intelligence in the Milky Way galaxy. The message will include scientific concepts, one of which is the form human body.

The scientists recommended that the message be sent through the FAST Observable Field, the world’s largest radio telescope located in Pingtang, Guizhou, China.

The message to be sent will complement messages that have been sent previously to space, most notably the Arecibo message, an interstellar radio message sent to the globular star cluster M13 in 1974.

NASA itself has previously sent a message containing humanitarian aspects to space called Mission Lucy 2021.

It includes poetry by Amanda Gorman, lyrics and quotes from The Beatles, and a fossil of Lucy’s early human ancestors. The mission was taken into space to reflect human culture.

Meanwhile, in the BITG proposal, the message to be sent to space focuses on concepts that may be more readable by aliens (ETI), namely mathematics and physics.

“Binary is likely universal across all intelligences. Therefore messages are encoded in the binary zero language used in computing systems,” the researchers said.

The messages include timestamps, location stamps, visual representations of the double helix structure of DNA and hydrogen atoms, visual explanations of algebra and mathematical operations.

In addition, researchers will also send illustrations of the solar system, maps of the earth, and of course illustrations of the human body (male and female) waving.

“This information is part of our appearance recognition if one day we physically meet,” explained the researcher.

In other words, aliens may want to see what humans look like, just as we would like to know whether aliens are green creatures with insect-like eyes or not.

The message concludes with an invitation for extraterrestrials to respond using their own radio telescope equipment.

“The message is simple but meaningful with the ultimate goal of starting a dialogue with ETI, no matter how far in the future that may be,” the researchers said.
