Researchers identify the protein to reprogram scar tissue cells, new hope for heart medicine

THE MIND OF THE PEOPLE – For researcher of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine has made major strides in the exciting field of cell reprogramming and organ regeneration.

Their findings have a major impact on the development of future treatments for the disease heart.

Research has found a more efficient and effective way to reprogram cells.scar tissue cells (fibroblasts) become muscle cells heart in a study published in the journal Cell Stem Cells (cardiomyocytes).

Fibrous and rigid tissue that causes sagging heart after the attack heart or due to illness heart created by fibroblasts.

For researcher they are examining the possibility of curing or one day curing this widespread and deadly disease by converting fibroblasts into cardiomyocytes.

strangely enough, protein by controlling the activity of a gene called Ascl1, known as protein involved in the conversion of fibroblasts into neurons, proved to be the key to a new approach to the generation of cardiomyocytes. It was once assumed that Ascl1 was neuron specific from par researcher.

“This is a discovery out of the boxand we hope this will be useful for the development of the disease heart in the future. Therapy and possibly other types of therapeutic cell reprogramming, ”said Li Qian, PhD, senior author of the study and associate director of the McAllister Heart Institute at UNC School of Medicine.

Over the past 15 years, the researcher have created a number of methods to convert adult cells into stem cells and then encourage these stem cells to differentiate into other types of adult cells.
