Sensational find in Egypt: Researchers discover two coffins in a thousand-year-old burial site. German researchers were also involved in the discovery.
Assiut – Not all the mysteries of the past have yet been solved. Just recently researchers made one Sensational find in Egypt. A little later, archaeologists came across another discovery in the land of the pharaohs. This time there are two intact coffins in a 4,000-year-old burial site.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities The burial chamber was discovered by researchers from the Free University of Berlin and the Egyptian University of Sohag. The daughter of the governor Djefaihapi of the Assiut region in the Middle Kingdom of ancient Egypt (ca. 2030 to 1640 BC) is said to have been buried there.

But the coffins seem extremely unusual. The governor’s daughter was initially buried in the smaller, approximately 2.30 meter long coffin. This was then stored in the larger coffin with a length of 2.62 meters. A coffin lid and wooden statues were also discovered. “The discovery of two intact Middle Kingdom coffins is extraordinary,” said Kathlyn Cooney, a professor of ancient Egyptian art and architecture at the University of California LiveScience.

The coffins “not only appear to be well preserved,” Cooney said. Images would also show elaborate decorations “that helped the deceased find their way into the underworld.” Further research could provide more information about how people in ancient Egypt viewed life after death, explained history professor Caroline Arbuckle from the University of Saskatchewan.
The woman named Idi is said to have lived during the reign of Senwosret I (circa 1961 to 1917 BC). However, according to the ministry, the grave has already been robbed by grave robbers, who probably stole the woman’s mummy. All that remained were the remains of the skull and bones of the woman, who presumably died before the age of 40. One of the wooden figures discovered could represent the governor’s daughter.
