Researchers Find AstraZeneca Vaccine Can Fight British Corona Virus Variants

Suara.com – Covid-19 Vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca has been shown to be able to resist a new variant of the corona virus which is easily transmitted in the UK. The AstraZeneca vaccine also provides similar protection for other types of corona viruses.

Previously, this new variant of the corona virus had been the main driver of the corona virus disease in the UK since mid-December 2020. Prof. Andrew Pollard, director of the Oxford Vaccine Group said this was due to the rapid spread of the virus.

New findings in “Preprints with The Lancet” have also compared the efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine among emerging new strains of the coronavirus.

Data from their trials of the ChAdOx1 vaccine in the UK show that the vaccine not only protects against the original coronavirus, but also protects against a new variant called B.1.1.7.

The researchers say the vaccine provides similar protection against symptomatic disease from strain B.1.1.7. However, the level of protection is around 75 percent, which is slightly lower than the 84 percent protection level of the vaccine against the original corona virus.

In addition, the antibody induced was 9 times lower against B.1.1.7. These findings came from 1,500 nose and throat swabs of 499 participants in the phase I and II trials from October 2020 to January 2021.

“The efficacy of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 against variant B.1.1.7 of SARS-CoV-2 is similar to the efficacy of the vaccine against other variants,” explained the researcher. Fox News.

Furthermore, ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccination resulted in a reduction in the duration of release and viral load, which has led to the transmission of the coronavirus.

British scientists have estimated that B.1.1.7 is a type of coronavirus that can spread 50 to 70 percent more easily from person to person. There is some data to suggest that these variants are also deadlier.

The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine has been approved for use in the UK. In fact, more than 10 million doses of the vaccine have been distributed throughout the UK.

This vaccine is also under monitoring. and the Medicines and Health Products Regulator (MHRA) said there was an estimated side effect rate of 3 per 1,000 doses given on 9 December 2020 to 24 January 2021.

“These compelling data have shown that most of the side effects are mild and they all occur with other vaccines, such as the seasonal flu vaccine,” explained the MHRA.
