Researchers discover a new special giant meat-eating dinosaur

SUKABUMIUPDATE.com – A new species of giant dinosaur was discovered by paleontologists on Thursday, July 7, 2022, which has now been named the giant carnivorous dinosaur species Meraxes gigas.

This new species is similar to Tyrannosaurus rex, with a large head and small arms.

According to the researchers’ findings, published in Current Biology, the creature’s small forelimbs weren’t an evolutionary fluke, but rather gave the predator an edge to survive in its time.

The findings were made over a four-year period, when researchers undertook a field expedition in Argentina’s northern Patagonia region, starting with the excavation of a skull found in 2012.

Its species name, Meraxes gigas, is named after a dragon in the ‘Song of Ice and Fire’ book series that inspired the ‘Game of Thrones’ TV show.

According to research, the remains of Meraxes show that the dinosaur died at the age of about 45 and weighed about 4 tons.

They believe dinosaurs lived 90 to 100 million years ago in what is now Argentina.

According to the researchers’ findings, this new species is the most complete carcharodontosaurid in the Southern Hemisphere and documents the peak in carcharodontosaurid diversity before they went extinct.
