Not just one, no, no less than 14 mummies have been discovered by scientists east of the Peruvian capital Lima. They are said to be between 800 and 1000 years old and to come from a pre-Inca culture. They were found in Cajamarquilla, an excavation site. Yomira Huaman is an archaeologist.
“There are six children and eight adults. There are two women, we are still in the process of examining the rest of the bodies. We can estimate their age from the clay grave goods.”
The scientists believe that those found were once sacrificed to accompany a prominent figure of the time, as a kind of court in the afterlife. The mummy of this celebrity was found in 2021.
