Developed by Royal Thai Airforce, the ZnO-NP-coated socks were put into practice by researchers at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, in Thailand.

They found that the antibacterial properties of ZnO-NP, along with its safety and compatibility with human skin, made it the perfect compound to incorporate into textiles, including socks, to prevent unpleasant foot odors.
“Our results prove the effectiveness of ZnO-NP coated socks in preventing bromodosis and inhibiting the development of keratolysis (a bacterial infection that causes smelly feet),” said the study’s lead author, Punyawee Ongsri of Royal Thai Airforce.

“These socks could provide a new primary prevention option for military personnel and those who are vulnerable to these embarrassing and unpleasant conditions,” added Ongsri.
Reporting from Times Now News, Monday (2/11) for the results, a double-blinded, randomized, controlled trial was conducted with 148 cadets at the Thai Naval Rating School.
