Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Researchers at ETH Zurich created artificial muscle The wearable is called the Myoshirt or it’s called the “exomuscle”.
This technology is primarily designed for patients with muscle disorders, and also has the potential to help healthy people by providing extra mobility.
Myoshirt It is a soft, wearable exoskeleton for the upper body. The artificial muscle fibers (cables) on the Myoshirt run parallel to the muscles of the wearer.
The embedded sensors and intelligent algorithms contract the synthetic fibers as the user moves for additional strength. ETH Zurich described the cable as an “artificial tendon.”
“The system is designed to put the wearer in control and allows for adjusting the power according to the user’s wishes,” said ETH Zurichquoted from UberizmoSaturday (16/7/2022).
The company explains the specific settings will help with arm and shoulder movement, and you can see the types of movements supported in the video below.

Interestingly, the developed artificial muscle system is very intuitive and does not require large equipment, as is often seen in professional medical therapy devices.
According to ETH Zurich, all testers found the equipment easy to use and all users (patients with impaired muscle or healthy) have experienced some benefits.
Unfortunately this is still a prototype and it will take time (and a lot of paperwork) before it can become a medical device for patients. Even so, this is a promising discovery that could drive more innovation in the future.
