Research Team Dispatched by Ministry of Health to Study Dengue Fever Virus in Jepara, Central Java

Jepara (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Health has dispatched a team to conduct research on the type of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) virus that is infecting residents in Jepara Regency, Central Java, including mosquito larvae, said Daily Executive (Plh) Head of the Jepara Health Office, Eko Cahyo Puspeno.

The five locations are Troso Village (Pecangaan District), Pendo Sawalan Village (Kalinenyamatan District), Bugel Village (Kedung District), Karanggondang and Suwawal Villages (Mlonggo District), while in Jepara Kota District it is Kuwasen Village.

For now, he said, he is still waiting for the results of the research because he is still in the process of waiting to see the virus rota to prove whether the virus in Jepara is a virulent type or not because it is spreading so fast and mortality is also high.

“Meanwhile, research on mosquito vectors is to find out whether mosquito larvae contain the dengue virus or not. If so, of course there is transovarial transmission or transmission from the mother to the mosquito eggs. Of course it is very dangerous when the larvae already contain the virus without biting the sufferer,” he said.

Another effort, namely focused fogging, was previously held in Troso Village involving the Semarang Port Health Office (KKP) team, the Ministry of Health, the Salatiga Laboratory Center, Banjarnegara, and the Jepara KKP.

Meanwhile, additionally, namely planting plants that can ward off mosquitoes, checking places used for water storage, keeping fish that eat mosquito larvae, using anti-mosquito medication, installing wire mesh on windows and ventilation in the house, carrying out mutual cooperation to clean environment together, putting used clothes in closed containers, providing larvicide to water reservoirs that are difficult to drain, and repairing water channels and gutters that are not running smoothly.

“We also hope that in every house there will be someone assigned to be a larva monitor. Meanwhile, to monitor this, the village can form a cadre of larva monitors to ensure that each resident’s house is free of mosquito larvae or in other words ’tilik tonggo’ or visiting neighbors,” he said.
