Research: six out of ten Dutch people stay with a petrol car | Money

More than 11% think of a hybrid model, while 59% would opt for petrol or diesel for their next car. Less than one percent choose LPG and the rest of the drivers do not know it yet, according to a survey among 2000 people conducted at the end of February and the beginning of March by the Panel Inzicht agency on behalf of energy supplier Zonneplan. More than one in ten of the respondents indicated that they do not drive a car.

Two in five Dutch people never want to drive electric at all. “A remarkable position”, notes Zonneplan, because in the so-called Climate Agreement, the aim is to have all new cars sold by 2030.

Negligible

Last year, only just under 20% of new cars sold were fully electric, according to the latest figures from industry club Bovag. There were 64,027 of a total of 322,8321. In addition, more than 2 million second-hand cars were sold, but below that the number of plug-in cars was negligible.

About 8.9 million cars drive on Dutch roads. According to figures from February from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, 253,743 of these are fully electric (almost 3%) and another 144,959 hybrids. The most common models are the Tesla Model 3 (41,140 units) and the Mitsubishi Outlander (21,385).

In the study, Zonneplan also asked when people want to start driving electrically. Nearly 2% of the respondents said they already drive electric, just under 4% expect to do so within a year, 13% within two to three years, while more than 14% thought it would take four to five years. More than a third has no idea yet, while 20% indicated that they never want to have a plug-in car.
