Research shows that long-term fasting for weight loss makes the brain hungry and affects the body’s immune response.

Research proves that fasting to lose weight makes the brain hungry and angry, 90% of monocytes are abnormal, and it refuses antiviral protection.

Fasting weight loss methods are very popular, including the most familiar “168 fasting”, which emphasizes that in 24 hours, the eating time is compressed within 8 hours, and the remaining 16 hours are fasted. However, recent studies have pointed out that long-term fasting has a great impact on the body.

Yeh Wing-kan, a Hong Kong dermatologistFacebook pageSharing, The Mount Sinai School of Medicine (The Mount Sinai School of Medicine) in February this year《Immunity》Journals published papers pointing out the adverse effects of fasting on the body.

The study used white mice to conduct experiments, and divided the white mice into two groups, one group had breakfast normally after getting up, and the other group did not eat breakfast; blood was also drawn 4 hours and 8 hours after waking up. Finally, the study found that the monocytes (Monocytes) of the fasting group had abnormal responses.

90% of monocytes refuse to protect the body

Monocytes can differentiate into macrophages, which are responsible for phagocytosis in the acutely inflamed tissues caused by the invasion of infection sources, and eliminate the invading pathogens. The study confirmed that the monocytes in the group of mice that ate breakfast normally had normal monocytes; but the monocytes of the mice in the fasting group disappeared from the blood of the body and transferred to the bone marrow since the fasting.

After 24 hours, the white mice in the fasting group ate again, and a large number of monocytes returned to the blood. This reflects inflammation, not that monocytes are providing the body with protection against infection, as they normally do to fight viruses. The researchers believe that this is actually a response to the brain’s hunger and anger.

And Dr. Ye also reminded through research that fasting and fasting may have a positive effect on improving metabolism, but more physical problems caused by this cannot be ignored; careful consideration should be taken before fasting.
