The study involved 18 young women consuming a randomized trial of foods on 14 separate mornings. They only eat rice, apples and rice at the same time (referred to as A+R).
Also, apples 30 minutes before rice (PA + R) or a sugar solution with the same sugar content as apples before rice (PSS+R).
“Compared with reference rice, PA+R achieved a 50 percent reduction of iAUC0-120, a 51.4 percent reduction from the average peak value, and a 52.6 percent reduction of the glycemic course in 240 minutes,” the study read.
“Meanwhile, PSS + R respectively showed a 29.7 percent and 31.6 percent reduction in peak values and glycemic trips,” he continued.
Therefore, apples consumed first are considered the most effective for lowering blood sugar. As a fruit, apples are very suitable as an appetizer because they are easy to carry, available all year round around the world.
“In this study, we achieved half of the postprandial glycemic journey from eating rice with apples consumed 30 minutes before eating,” he explained.
