Hitekno.com – Bad news for you fans coffee. Because the results study recently discovered that climate change impact on coffee quality.

As in research from Tufts University and Montana State University from the United States, it was revealed how the impact of climate change on coffee.

According to the results of this study, climate change can have an impact on the decline in the quality of coffee taste and aroma.

Sean Cash as one of the researchers revealed that the impact of climate change on plants can cause economic and political disruption in many countries in the world. For this reason, this research is intended to help farmers understand the impact of climate change.

If we can understand the effects of this change, then it can help farmers and other stakeholders to better manage coffee in facing the challenges now and in the future.,” said Cash, in a paper published in Frontiers in Plant Science, quoted from Tufts, Monday (1/11/2021).

The researchers identified the effects of 10 environmental and management factors on climate change and adaptation.

As a result, they found that two factors were the most influential. First, the higher the coffee is planted, the better the aroma and taste. Second, the more sun exposure, the lower the quality of the coffee.

Then another factor is the quality of coffee is also susceptible to changes and water pressure, temperature increases, to carbon dioxide.

The first factor is something that is highlighted. Because the cold temperature conditions in the highlands will be difficult to obtain if the earth is getting warmer.

While reducing sun exposure is believed to still be overcome. Farmers can use the optimal canopy to protect the coffee from the sun.

In addition, the researchers also revealed efforts that could be made, such as the selection and maintenance of climate-resistant wild coffee plants to pest eradication management.

This strategy gives hope that coffee quality can be maintained or improved, and in the end can help farmers,” said Selena Ahmed, a researcher from Montana State University.

Experts also warn that climate change has the potential to disrupt the cultivation of other crops needed to meet human nutrition and health.

The impact on these plants is important to study in general, not only for coffee, “said Ahmed.
