The survey by GGD IJsselland into the impact of the corona measures on the inhabitants of the IJsselland region, shows that a third of the respondents will celebrate the holidays in an adapted way. “7% say that they are not celebrating the holidays at all this year because of corona,” says Rilana Wessel, epidemiologist GGD IJsselland.
The research also pays attention to subjects such as support for corona measures, vaccination readiness, social relationships and well-being.
Support for measures remains high
The survey, in which 2,317 residents took part, took place in November in collaboration with other GGDs and the RIVM. The participants answered the questions during the aggravation period of the partial lockdown.
Support for the measures remains very high. Support for wearing a mouth mask in public transport and keeping a distance of 1.5 meters even increased. But the participants also indicated that understanding of the social measures, such as staying at home as much as possible and the number of people you are allowed to see, will decrease if they continue for another six months.
Vaccination
When asked whether people would like to be vaccinated, 45% of the participants answered in the affirmative. A small group, 5%, would like to be vaccinated, but also first know whether they have had the virus. This percentage for vaccination has decreased compared to previous measurements in May and in the summer months.
Epidemiologist Rilana Wessel: “We think this is because it is now known that you can become infected with the corona virus for a second time.” The percentage of people who do not yet know whether they want to be vaccinated is 35% and 14% do not want to be vaccinated.
Impact on social relationships
In general, the participants in the GGD study feel psychologically healthy (83%) and they experience their health as (very) good (82%). Almost a fifth (18%) feel very lonely and 72% really miss seeing friends and family. During the summer period, with more lenient measures, the percentage of participants who were positive about their social contacts was higher.
2,317 inhabitants from the IJsselland region took part in the corona investigation. Of these, 71% are women and 29% men. 29% are between 25 and 39 years old, 27% between 40 and 54 years old and 15% are above 70 years old, 75% live with a partner and 12% alone. 31% have children up to and including 12 years old. More than half of the participants (54%) are highly educated.
