Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Research conducted by the General Secretary PP Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti and the Chairman of the PP Muhammadiyah Research and Strategic Partnership Institute (LKKS) discovered the phenomenon of the Muhammadiyah variant of Christianity alias KrisMuha in remote areas.
The research was then compiled into a book entitled Muhammadiyah Christianity: Managing Religious Plurality in Education. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology held a review of the book on Monday (22/5).
According to the official website Muhammadiyahthe KrisMuha variant refers to Christians who are Muhammadiyah sympathizers.
According to the chairman of LKKS PP Muhammadiyah Fajar Riza Ulhaq, the book he compiled describes the situation of tolerance in remote areas in Indonesia, especially in the 3T areas (Frontier, Remote and Disadvantaged).
The areas in question are Ende, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT); Serui, Papua; and Putussibau, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan).
He said the phenomenon of the emergence of the KrisMuha variant could be explained by the intense interaction between Muslim and Christian students in the educational environment at Muhammadiyah schools.
“However, it should be noted that this interaction does not eliminate their identity as devout Christians,” said Fajar as quoted from Muhammadiyah’s official website, Sunday (28/5).
CNNIndonesia.com have obtained permission from Abdul Mu’ti to quote the article.
He admitted that he did not suspect that the public (readers) would still be interested in and enthusiastic about the work today, even though the book was published in 2009.
“This is Muhammadiyah’s contribution in building a generation of Indonesians who are more tolerant, inclusive, and used to living together in differences,” he said.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of PP Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti explained that initially the book was published in 2009 but lacked detail in terms of data.
However, according to him, this time the book has undergone comprehensive improvements and has also been well repaired.
“Especially in chapter two of this book, it explains the roots of pluralism in Muhammadiyah education at the grassroots level,” he said.
