Research Analyst Position: Virus-Host Interactions at University of Utrecht – Apply Now!

We are looking to strengthen the team that conducts research into the role of membrane vesicles in infections with flaviviruses, such as dengue virus and Zika virus. Read on to find out if this is something for you.

What are you going to do?

Cells normally communicate via release and uptake of nanosized membrane vesicles. This research contributes to the question of how viruses undermine this means of cell communication and use it for their own spread.

As a research analyst you perform analyzes in the field of isolation and characterization of membrane vesicles. The focus is on cell culture (cell lines from mosquitoes and human blood cells), flavivirus infections, density gradient centrifugation, western blot, flow cytometry and quantitative PCR. You also contribute to optimizing research techniques and protocols.

Within this project you are part of an enthusiastic group of postdocs, PhD students and analysts working within the Infection Biology group. You will work mostly with two postdoctoral researchers.

What are you bringing?

  • You have a Higher Laboratory Education diploma or master’s degree in biology or biomedical sciences and you have an affinity with infection-related and/or cell biological research.
  • You have experience with tissue culture and molecular biological techniques.
  • You preferably have experience working at biological safety level 2 and/or 3.
  • As an enthusiastic colleague, you work together in a pleasant and constructive manner within a team of researchers.
  • In addition to carefully carrying out experiments, you enjoy thinking about what could be done differently, for example in optimizing existing procedures.
  • You have good knowledge of the English language.

What do we offer?

In addition to the employment conditions laid down in the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities, Utrecht University has a number of its own regulations. There are agreements about this professional developmentleave arrangements, arrangements in the field of sports and culture and you get a discount on software and other IT products. We also give you the opportunity to expand your employment conditions via the Employment Conditions Selection Model. We would like to encourage you to continue growing. Over ons

A better future for everyone. This ambition motivates our scientists in their top research and providing inspiring education. At the University of Utrecht various disciplines work intensively together on social issues important themes. Onze focus ligt op Dynamics of Youth, Institutions for Open Societies, Life Sciences en Pathways to Sustainability. Sharing science, shaping tomorrow.

Of faculty of veterinary medicine is the only institution in the Netherlands that trains veterinarians. In addition, researchers work together on innovative scientific research surrounding the thema’s One Health, One Medicine and Veterinary Biomedicine. In addition, the faculty provides specialist clinical care in the University Animal Hospital. Attention to disease, health and welfare of the animal and its environment forms the basis for the three pillars of our faculty: education, research and animal health care. The faculty has approximately 1,500 students and 900 employees and is located on the Utrecht Science Parknot far from it historic center from Utrecht.

Within the Infection Biology group of the department of Infectious Diseases & Immunology we conduct laboratory research into mechanisms by which bacteria and viruses interact and communicate with their host. We focus on interactions of bacteria with mucosal epithelium and the role of membrane vesicles in host-pathogen interactions. For this research we work closely with colleagues from the Virology group.
