In the morning hours of February 21, lifeguards received the alert of a forest fire on the Agua volcano, jurisdiction of the municipality of Santa María de Jesús, in Sacatepéquez. To that extent, the work to put out the fire resumed at 6 a.m. this day, while the combat personnel, before getting ready, offered some prayers for the situation that is happening there.
Several units with combat personnel are present at the Unified Command Post in that municipality. Likewise, Volunteer Firefighters of the 8th. Co. of La Antigua Guatemala installed the supply pool for the aircraft, at the San Gaspar Vivar soccer field, in the aforementioned municipality.

The Disaster Reduction Coordinator (Conred) carries out air operations to combat the forest fire registered on the Agua volcano.

Following up on the ground and air operations scheduled for today, Thursday, February 22, they are:
The National Council of Protected Areas (Conap) requested support from Fundaeco for air aid with a 4-hour flight using the helibalde.
The heliport planned for the action is the soccer field of the San Gaspar Vivar village of Santa María de Jesús and the water supply will be in charge of Volunteer Firefighters of the 8th. Co. of La Antigua Guatemala.
For its part, on land, the fight against the fire will be made up of: the Humanitarian and Rescue Brigade of the Guatemalan Army, personnel from the Municipal Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Comred) of Santa María de Jesús, personnel from the National Council of Protected Areas (Conap), the Nature Protection Division (DIPRONA) of the National Civil Police (PNC), National Forest Institute (Inab, the National Association of Municipal and Departmental Firefighters (Asonbomd), the Corps Volunteer Firefighters (CVB), Municipal Firefighters Corps (CBM), Municipality of La Antigua Guatemala, Municipality of San Lucas Sacatepéquez and coordinated from the PCU by an Immediate Response Team (ERI) of the SE-Conred. Pre-hospital care is carried out by the Guatemalan Red Cross.
Finally, Conap warns the general population to follow the instructions of the local authorities on the suspension of activities to climb the Agua volcano, as well as take preventive measures in the face of the obvious risk in the affected area, such as preventive evacuations due to air pollution.
