Cologne There was a violent riot in Cologne at the weekend. Police officers and paramedics were pelted with bottles several times and were massively insulted.
Rescue workers from the fire brigade were pelted with a bottle during a mission in Cologne early on Saturday morning. A stranger threw the glass bottle from a group at the paramedics who were tending to an injured person, the police said on Sunday. The bottle splintered in front of the emergency services, nobody was injured. Then the suspect fled with his companions.

According to the police, rescue workers were also pelted with bottles during an operation on Sunday. The paramedics were on the move at walking pace in a pedestrian zone when bystanders threw glass bottles at the vehicle and hit and kicked the walls.

On Friday, strangers at Cologne University had also thrown bottles in the direction of security staff and police officers. The security service had previously reported around 200 people on the site via the emergency number, some of whom were trying to climb scaffolding at the rear of the main building. The police cleared the area and issued dismissals. A 26-year-old who refused to leave was detained overnight.
