Ulf Ryen (55) describes what met him as “a bit special”.

Because when he made his way down to a ledge on Friday afternoon, there were 25 goats staring at him.

– They stood like herring in a barrel. It was very tight, he says to VG.

It was NRK Innlandet that mentioned the matter first.

With his mobile phone in hand, he filmed his surroundings, before addressing the animals:

The animals had strayed down a precipitous mountainside close to the Aasengjuvet in Heidal in Inlandet.

Under the expensive river river.

The goats disappeared on Thursday, before they were discovered on Friday and a rescue operation was launched.

Ryen is a hobby climber and has, together with the local fire service, contributed to the campaign to get the stranded goats to safety.

– The owner had said they could be skeptical of people, but when I came down they were trusting. They were probably just hungry for food, because they had eaten the bark of the trees that were there, says Ryen.

– Goats are good at climbing, but there they were stuck. It was a complete stop.

– But not for you?

– We have ropes, so we cheat a little.

The rescuers managed to hoist around 30 of the animals, but had to stop work due to the risks involved in the rescue operation.

Several of the animals are said to have already fallen down.

The steep slope is both muddy and the snow has gradually subsided.

Ryen and the local fire service tell VG that they believe the owner will try to lure the last goats down the slope and to safety.

– If it is not possible to lure them down, then they must be euthanized, says Operations Leader in Sel fire and rescue, Roger Pladsen to VG.

But daylight must first come again before the rescue operation can continue again.
