Rescue operation in Rogaland halted: – The hole in the ice is too small

Large relief assets moved into Figgjo in Sandnes on Christmas Eve after it was reported that a person had possibly crossed the ice at Figvedtjørn.

The person who reported saw a person on the ice. When the person in question ran through the same water about 20 minutes later, she didn’t see the person, but a hole in the ice-cold water.

Large relief assets were then dispatched to the scene.

Shortly after 1.30pm, the police announced that the rescue operation was over and that probably no one had gone into the water.

A witness police spoke to observed a man cutting a hole in the ice with an ax earlier in the day.

– Rescue teams have determined that the hole is too small to fall through. It may have been an ice fisherman. The rescue operation is over, says the Sørvest police district Chirping.
