Rescue operation after a hiker fell from a cliff

– A rescue operation is underway after a hiker has fallen from a mountainside, the police in Nordland state.

The accident happened in Narvik, and the extent of the damage is unknown.

Volunteer crews from the Red Cross and Norwegian People’s Aid have been called to the scene, along with a rescue helicopter. Just before 19.30 they arrive at the site.

– It is a tour group and the others in the tour group have had contact with him. In any case, he has been awake and conscious, says operations manager in Nordland police district, Lars Halvorsen.

It is not known how far the person has fallen, but the alpine rescue group will assist the police in bringing the person down.

– There are difficult conditions up in the mountains, it is quite high up on a mountain ridge with fog in the area, says Halvorsen.
