[수원=뉴스핌] Reporter Park Seung-bong = On the 1st of Gyeonggi-do, an animal protection group rescued about 1,410 dogs from a dog breeding farm in Paltan-myeon, Hwaseong-si, and transferred them to the ‘Gyeonggi Pet Maru’, a complex cultural space for companion animals in the province, to protect them.

The protective measures were carried out by Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon, who issued an emergency order after receiving a tip from an animal protection organization on social media. The animal group reported to Governor Kim Dong-yeon, “There is animal cruelty, such as splitting the belly of the mother and taking out the puppies, and the bodies of euthanized or dead puppies were stored in the freezer and buried in the back mountain.”

On the 2nd, Governor Kim Dong-yeon shared the rescue and transportation of surviving animals at the ‘Gyeonggi Pet Maru’, saying, “Dogs rescued from a terrible scene are being transferred to the Gyeonggi Pet Maru.” We are ready to invest our resources and welcome precious lives.”

Then, Governor Kim said, “Gyeonggi-do immediately took all possible measures. The special judicial police team was immediately dispatched to the scene, and the Livestock Animal Welfare Bureau protected the dogs on the spot.” Gyeonggi-do, the center of the world, will fulfill its role,” he added.

On the 1st day of the report, the province sent a special judicial police team, companion animals, and staff to the scene to secure about 1,410 surviving dogs.

The breeding ground was a facility that had been reported by the local government, but it was confirmed that it was suspected of violating the Animal Protection Act, such as abuse.

Of the 1410 dogs, 737 dogs are directly protected and supported by the dog, Gyeonggi Pet Maru (Yeoju) protects 583 dogs, and the Helper Dog Sharing Center (Hwaseong) protects 104 dogs. The remaining 50 animals are supported by subsidizing protection costs to animal protection organizations.

Except for dogs directly protected and supported by the province, animal protection organizations take over and protect them. It is very meaningful for Gyeonggi Pet Maru, which is about to officially open, to urgently protect animals in danger, the province explained.

The provincial government completes the placement of surviving animals in each shelter, and promotes adoption through procedures such as infectious diseases and health checkups. In addition, it will focus on promoting adoption campaigns in cooperation with animal protection groups.

In the process of transporting more than 1,400 dogs from the breeding grounds in Hwaseong to animal protection facilities such as Pet Maru in Gyeonggi, the help of volunteers such as animal protection organizations played a big role.

Meanwhile, Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi-do reorganized the Livestock and Forestry Bureau into the ‘Livestock and Animal Welfare Bureau’ in December of last year, emphasizing the importance of animal welfare, and newly established ‘Animal Welfare Division’ and ‘Companion Animal Division’ for the first time in the country.

The ‘Animal Cruelty Prevention Team’ was also newly established within the Special Judicial Police Corps to deal with illegal acts of animal abuse sternly. After the order to crack down on illegal acts to prevent the recurrence of similar cases of animal abuse, such as the ‘Yangpyeong dog carcass case’ in March, illegal slaughter sites have been uncovered one after another.
