Shortly after 4:00 p.m., the main fire station in Villach was alerted by the police. The buckled children – three and one and a half years old – and the key were in the vehicle at the time. The mother was no longer able to open the car door herself.
Operations manager Martin Regenfelder, deputy commander of the main fire station in Villach, said that due to the temperatures of more than 30 degrees, quick action was required: “With a special air cushion, the pane could be opened so far that the key and thus the children could be reached to free him quickly.” During the rescue operation, the outside of the car windows were darkened to prevent the inside of the vehicle from heating up further.
investigations are ongoing
They were handed over to their relieved parents. Why the vehicle locked itself even though the key was inside the vehicle must first be ascertained. It could be a technical defect or that the children had locked themselves in by pressing the remote control on the bunch of keys.
The main fire station was on site with two vehicles and five emergency services together with the police. The sauna-like temperatures that can arise in a vehicle within a short time can quickly become life-threatening for small children, but also for animals.
