Rescue Man Falling on Train Tracks – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK – A dramatic Thanksgiving rescue, like something out of a movie, was spared a tragic end thanks to police officers and a Good Samaritan who rushed in to drag a fallen person onto the train tracks.

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon at the East Harlem station East 116th Street yes Lexingtonaround 4.30pm

Metro users at the station alerted a pair of platform officers of the man’s fall onto the station platforms. From there, body camera footage shows officers running to help the injured man.

That particular station does not have a mezzanine connecting the north and south platforms, so officers had to run up the stairs and out of the station to go down the other side. By the time they reached the northbound platform, a Good Samaritan had already jumped down to try to help.

Together, the three men carried the injured passenger back on and off the platform seconds before an oncoming 6 train barreled into the station.

“The joint effort by Governor Hochul and Mayor Adams to have additional NYPD officers patrolling subway stations and on trains not only helps passengers feel safer, but in this case has allowed the brave and good Samaritans, in the best tradition of New Yorkers, to help each other to save a life,” MTA President Janno Lieber said in a statement.

The NYPD said one of the officers was able to treat the injured man until paramedics arrived and rushed him to a nearby hospital for hand and back injuries.

According to the police publication, the passenger accidentally fell on the train tracks. No further details have been released.
