Law No. 214 of 2020 issuing the law regulating clinical medical research stipulated that the researcher must meet all the academic qualifications of study, training, and experience that enable him to assume responsibility for managing medical research, and that he be familiar with the rules and ethics of scientific research and how to deal with patients.
The law also stipulates that he must be of good conduct and of good reputation, and must not have previously been sentenced to a felony penalty, or to a freedom-restricting penalty for a crime against honor or honesty, unless he has been rehabilitated, and his personal interest in conducting or completing the research does not conflict with the interest of Or the safety of any of the participating respondents, all as stated in the executive regulations of this law.
It is worth noting that the law aims to protect research subjects, whether this research is preventive or diagnostic, therapeutic or non-therapeutic, interventional or non-interventional, in addition to setting the foundations, standards and controls necessary to conduct clinical medical research and protect the subjects. Below we review the requirements that must be met by the principal investigator. .
The law requires that this research adhere to the provisions of relevant laws, charters and regulations, provided that it is consistent with recognized international ethical standards and principles.
