Requested 3000, adjusted to 1000; Couple fined for walking on street at midnight – Fine by Bangalore Police | Manoram online

Bangalore: Police imposed fine for leaving home at 12:30. The incident took place in Bangalore. Police fined the couple for breaking the law by walking on the street near their home at night. They were on their way home after a birthday party. Meanwhile, those who arrived in the pink Hoysala police vehicle have collected their fine from the couple.

Karthik Patri tweeted asking the Bangalore City Police Commissioner for help on the matter. The 15 tweets read: The incident occurred as he was walking home from a cake cutting ceremony for a friend’s birthday party. It was nearly 12:30. We are company residents near Manyata Tech Park. When he reached the gate of the house, a patrol van was brought in and stopped. Two men in police uniforms got out and asked me to show my ID. We were baffled as to why we were being asked to show ID just to walk down the street. Then we showed the police the photos of the Aadhaar cards. Subsequently, the police took the phones and asked for personal information.

Meanwhile, one of the policemen took what looked like a challan book from the vehicle and started recording Aadhaar’s names and numbers. When asked why he was writing down the name and information, he said it was to collect a fine for roaming on the road after 11pm. While there is no such rule, we decided not to make the situation worse as it was the middle of the night and the phones had been seized.

The police refused to let him go even though he said he was unaware of the law and said he was sorry. 3,000 as a fine was requested. They threatened to arrest him if he didn’t pay. His wife was in a state of tears. Realizing that this was going to be a problem, one of the policemen grabbed her husband and advised him to pay the minimum amount to avoid further trouble. He agreed to pay Rs.1,000. The policeman asked him to send it through the Paytm payment application. The tweet says that after paying the money, they left the place after warning them not to do it again.

Bangalore City North East Division Police Deputy Commissioner Anoop A. Shetty assured that strict action will be taken. Police said if anyone else has been through a similar situation, please let them know. The officer and Chief Constable of Sampigehalli Police Station were suspended after an investigation into the incident.
