They ask to increase the amount of the PGU Universal Guaranteed Pension
By the unanimity of 131 votes in favor, the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies approved resolution 406, through which the President of the Republic is requested to increase the amount of the Universal Guaranteed Pension (PGU).
Specifically, it is requested that this monthly pension amount to a maximum of $250,000, resettable to $300,000 per calendar year. “It is necessary to readjust to the national economic scenario. Due to the inflation that especially affects the most vulnerable groups in our country, such as the elderly. Also, “for those who suffer from some kind of disability,” the resolution notes.
Currently, Law 21,419 seeks to improve pensions through the creation of a Universal Guaranteed Pension (PGU). This benefit is for adults over the age of 65 who are not in the richest 10%. Since February of this year, the amount is $206,173 pesos per month.
The document explains that the inflation that is currently taking place in our country has caused the current amount of the PGU to be insufficient so that its beneficiaries can have the same standard of living.
“It is directly affecting people who have less income and who, for age or health reasons, are unable to carry out paid activities that allow them to obtain a salary that can sustain all their food needs and payment of basic services,” is emphasized in the text.
