I believe that in recent days, and in particular, since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, the leadership of the BSP, in its capacity as a coalition partner in the government of Kiril Petkov, striving at all costs to stay in power, has systematically taken inconsistent, contradictory positions and follows a line that supports the military policy of the USA and NATO, thus involving Bulgaria directly in the conflict.

STATEMENT

Dear Dr. Georgieva,
Please, on the basis of Art. 13, paragraph 1, item 1 of the Statute of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, to terminate my membership in the main party organization of the BSP – the town of Bregovo.
Motives
I believe that in recent days, and in particular, since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, the leadership of the BSP, in its capacity as a coalition partner in the government of Kiril Petkov, striving at all costs to stay in power, has systematically taken inconsistent, contradictory positions and follows a line that supports the military policy of the USA and NATO, thus involving Bulgaria directly in the conflict.
Having placed itself in a disadvantageous position, taking on the negatives of power and with limited choices for maneuver, after the emergence of the military crisis, the leadership of the BSP became hostage to narrow and vested interests, to dishonorable personal ties, to behind-the-scenes deals, and with its politics increasingly moves away from primordial and fundamental socialist values, breaking with the past and its roots.
I am extremely disappointed by the fact that at a time of trial, at a time of open and furious confrontation between rising and US-EU-supported neo-Nazism, in a situation where a true left-wing party should stand up and assert its authentic anti-fascist and anti-imperialist nature, the leadership of the BSP cowardly juggles words and stubbornly does not want to declare a firm position regarding the bloodshed in Donbass and Luhansk and, in particular, the actions of the far-right neo-Nazi gangs “Azov”, “Desen Sektor”, etc., which began as early as 2014.
In this context, I do not understand and cannot accept that the leadership of the party of which I am a member has lost its sense of self-preservation, easily destroying its most devoted and most valuable followers – the people with anti-fascist self-awareness and revolutionary spirit. I do not wish to be part of a party that calls itself “left” and “socialist” only in words, but in practice directly or indirectly supports the anti-Semitism and fascistic supra-nationalism of right-wing pro-NATO parties and policies that incite war, that destroy Bulgaria, turning her in a colony.
After the vote for the resignation of Gen. held on 01.03.2022. Stefan Yanev – Minister of Defense, who publicly expressed an opinion on the need to pursue a balanced and more reasonable policy towards the conflict, the BSP leadership lined up with its political opponents. BSP representatives in the European Parliament did not lag behind and also supported a resolution against Russia. The subsequent reactions of the radical and fiercest anti-socialist right wing currently prevailing in the country, calling for the removal of monuments to the Red Army, the calls to change the date of the national holiday – March 3, the open desire for revenge and erasing the symbols of the anti-fascist struggle, the calls for persecution of people with other convictions, the imposed restrictions on freedom of speech, the total manipulation of the Bulgarian people – all these events and facts prove that a process similar to those sinister events that took place in Germany in the 1930s is taking place in the country. Against this background, the leadership of the BSP shows extreme inadequacy, fleeing from an open clash and struggle of ideas, and self-servingly tries to stay on the edge of power, trading in the most sacred values for every socialist.
The military operation in Ukraine to demilitarize and de-Nazify overtly ultra-right Nazi formations has put the BSP into a check mode where the leadership has failed, and the stated positions of the party leader have not met my expectations.

I ask that the application be considered, and that my desire to suspend membership in the BSP be ascertained at a meeting of the OPO of the BSP-city. Bregovo, according to Article 13, Paragraph 1, Item 1 of the Statute of the Bulgarian Socialist Party.
Please send me the minutes of the meeting with the decision to terminate membership, to certify that I have ceased my participation in the BSP.
