The child protection service in Haugesund municipality requests the State Administrator in Rogaland to open an inspection in a case the service has been involved in for several years.
The service does so on instructions from the municipal management in Haugesund, which committee leader for upbringing Bjørn Gunnar Husby (V) in Haugesund city council can confirm.
– The municipal director of education has informed me that the municipality would send a request to the State Administrator to open an inspection in this case, says Husby to Dagbladet.

Distrust
The municipality wants the supervisory authority to review the case, in order to assess whether the child protection service’s handling has been sound.
The background is that a parent in the case has over time expressed distrust in the work of the child welfare services.
This is clear from the letter of request that child welfare has now sent to the State Administrator in Rogaland.
The case in question will go to court this week.
According to Dagbladet’s knowledge, there has long been a storm behind the scenes in the inflamed case.
“System error”
Recently resigned mayor Arne-Christian Mohn (Ap) has previously asked the municipal administration to take action.
Dagbladet knows the content of an e-mail Mohn sent to an actor in August this year, in which he expresses his joy that the child welfare service’s “system error” has been captured on audio tape.
“Now I give them a week to dig a little into the issues, and then I want to have another meeting with the CEO. (…) I expect them to be humble in relation to the error that has been demonstrated,” writes Mohn, who was mayor of Haugesund from 2015 until 18 October this year.
Dagbladet has not succeeded in getting Mohn to speak.

– Not possible
Municipal director for upbringing in Haugesund, Gyda Auestad, states in an e-mail to Dagbladet that it is very important for the municipality “to have a child protection service that follows up its mandate and area of responsibility in accordance with the current regulations”.
She does not answer Dagbladet’s question about former mayor Mohn’s handling of the case.
Furthermore, Auestad states that the child protection service itself can request the state administrator to supervise a case in order to assess whether the case management is or has been sound, but she does not wish to comment on the specific case in the media.
– Due to the duty of confidentiality and the privacy of parents and children, it is not possible for the municipality to provide information to the media in child welfare matters. Any person’s connection to the child protection service is to be considered a personal relationship that is subject to confidentiality, says the municipal director.
