Mexico City.– Leticia Ramírez, Secretary of Public Education, asked the Government of Chihuahua to comply with the distribution of Free Textbooks (LTG), after the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) dismissed the constitutional controversy filed by the PAN member María Eugenia Campos.
Interviewed when leaving the National Palace, after participating in the flag-raising of the Mexican delegation that will attend the Pan American Games, Ramírez acknowledged that they have faced difficulties in that entity.
“We believe that it should be resolved now. There are still difficulties, we have delivered all the books. We are asking the authorities to put an end to this, the boys and girls of Chihuahua do not deserve that treatment,” he said.
Ramírez maintained that, although they have not registered work stoppages, the entity’s teachers have demanded that materials be delivered for the 2023-2024 school year.
“Last week there were no strikes. They were reporting that already today, in some cities of Chihuahua, teachers are urgently asking for the delivery of books,” he said.
On October 4, the Court dismissed the constitutional controversy promoted by the PAN government of Chihuahua to challenge the distribution of the new free textbooks.
Unanimously, the First Chamber of the Court revoked the order admitting the controversy, issued on August 10 by Minister Luis María Aguilar, considering that the claim was notoriously inadmissible.
The Chamber considered that the state of Chihuahua does not have any power to defend in matters of preparation, production and distribution of textbooks, since it is an exclusive power of the Federation, hence the inadmissibility of its claim.
Despite the court decision, on October 11, the Government of Chihuahua once again suspended the distribution of books.
The Ministry of Education and Sports reported that, derived from two amparo lawsuits promoted by the Human Rights Clinic and the State Association of Parents, the distribution will stop until it is resolved by the judicial authorities.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador called on the Governor to act sensibly.
