Books – Nashat Ali:
Dr. Hanan Abdo Ammar, a member of the House of Representatives, submitted a briefing request to Counselor Dr. Hanafi Jabali, Speaker of the House, addressed to Dr. Khaled Abdo Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, regarding the high rates of caesarean section in Egypt.
The representative revealed, in her request, that Egypt is first in the world in terms of caesarean section births, according to a World Health Organization study conducted in several countries, the result of which was that the caesarean section rate in Britain is 26%, in the Dominican Republic it is 58%, while in Egypt it is 63%, and this is an alarming and frightening percentage.
She said that from 2000 to 2021, caesarean sections increased more than 7-fold, at a rate that rose from 10% to about 72%, and propaganda has also spread during the recent period to promote this type of birth in Egypt by some doctors and private medical facilities, until it has become As a business.
Dr. Hanan Ammar explained that the “caesarean section business” bill in Egypt rose to 14 billion and 525 million pounds annually, compared to natural births, whose bill reached 3 billion and 675 million pounds, considering that the price of natural births ranges between obstetricians and gynecologists from 1,000 to 3,000. pounds, while a caesarean section ranges from 8,000 to 14,000 pounds
She noted that this noticeable increase in caesarean section births is a dangerous phenomenon that requires awareness of its risks and great efforts to be made at the level of people and concerned parties to avoid its potential risks, as Egypt is ranked first in the world.
She wondered why the number of caesarean sections in Egypt is so high compared to other countries in the world, and what is the role of the Ministry of Health in reducing the rates of this type of birth in Egypt?
She pointed out that there are many risks resulting from a caesarean section, as performing it has repercussions and complications on the health of the mother and fetus that may lead to death.
