Libreville, Monday January 8, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – The Gabonese state will have to pay this amount to renationalize this oil company.
Among the major announcements made by the President of the Republic on December 31 during his greetings to the Nation, featured prominently the purchase by the Gabonese State of Assala Energy. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema envisaged with this announcement the intention of the State to exercise its right of pre-emption to take over this company with the aim of strengthening the control of public authorities over strategic sectors of the national economy. To achieve this, it will have to mobilize an envelope of 1,000 billion F.
In the past, for the repurchase of the assets of this company, the multinationals Maurel and Prom had only paid 450 billion F. Gabon had then only garnered 500 billion F in bonuses. In addition to a bill of 1,150 billion F to be paid in this operation, the State will also have to mobilize other financing to be able to put all the oil fields into operation. But experts remain doubtful as to the feasibility of this operation given the status of the funds which remains quite worrying. But, given the determination of the Head of State, there are options to achieve this objective. Gabon will be able to opt for self-financing or raise its debt.
