Reactions were swift among members of the Republican Party after NBC News projected that Gavin Newsom will continue to serve as governor of California.
And although they assured that the results were not what they expected, they said that the elections were not completely in vain.
“The truth is that I do not think we have totally lost, of course Governor Newsom is going to stay in his position, but the other thing is that he has had to focus on defending his policy. We succeeded in the simple fact that we were able to get to this point in a state that is so Democratic, “said Richard Maher, an officer for the Young Republicans in San Francisco.
For his part, John Dennis, president of the San Francisco Republican Party, said that despite Newsom’s victory “with the recall action, Californians will be more critical of the governor’s decisions,” he said.
Party members indicated that they will continue to evaluate the governor’s performance and look forward to the next elections.
